Empowering Women in Watersports

Empowering Women in Watersports
Marina Scott

When the sleepy Hawaiian town of Paia transformed into a mecca for wind sport travelers, Maui Girl’s founder Deb Wilson identified a unique need for swimwear that was both functional AND fashionable.

Water women have always been our core audience and after almost 40 years of perfecting the ‘art of the bikini’, our commitment to locally made, high quality, small batch, active swimwear remains the same.

Active swimwear made for you to live in, not just swim in.

Active Swimwear

Maui Girl seeks to empower women of all ages in all watersports, by offering swimwear that stays put. We choose to highlight real water women in our marketing efforts, and support like minded organizations. Here are a few examples:

Sponsorship of the Butterfly Effect Cabarete

This non competitive event empowers girls and women through watersports, fostering confidence, leadership, and a sense of achievement, while promoting gender equality and inspiring future generations of female leaders.

The Butterfly Effect started on Maui in 2007, created by water-woman/Maui Girl Advocate Tatiana Howard Maffei, and has been taking place each year since, totalling more than 50 events in 20+ countries so far.

Supporting Maui Surfer Girls

We are proud to partner with a community of strong female role models at Maui Surfer Girls. This includes donations to the scholarship program for local teens, prizing/discounts, and facilitating fundraising initiatives. With a mission to build self-confidence in women through the sport of surfing, Maui Surfer Girls has been recognized nationally for their signature girls surf camps.
